SALONS AT THE LOWDOWN

SUNDAY, MAY 22 | 4 PM - 7 PM

Inspired by Italian salons of the 16th century, Salons at the Lowdown provide a forum for musicians and performers to share their work in a relaxed and supportive environment. All skill levels, genres, and performance mediums are welcome. Whether you're a seasoned musician or new to performing, Salons at the Lowdown are a great opportunity to share your work and connect with like-minded members of our local arts community.

Salons are held quarterly, and run by the amazing artist and emcee extraordinaire, Maggie Flickinger! Find out about this, and future salons, by following our Facebook Group for news and updates!

INTERESTED IN PERFORMING AT THE NEXT SALON?

We'd love to have you! Follow our Facebook Group for news and updates! The format is reminiscent of an open mic in that performers sign up in advance and are designated time slots for their sets. As mentioned above, our events are held on a quarterly basis. Once the event for the current session has been posted, performers choose from one of the open time slots in the "pinned post" and contact one of the group admins to reserve their slot. Time slots are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Salons at the Lowdown are normally (in non-pandemic times) held at the Lowdown Ballroom where there is a a piano, PA system, and plenty of gear so all you need to bring is yourself and your instrument.

WORKSHOP: NOTES ON SWING JAMMING

SATURDAY, JUNE 18 | 7 PM - 8:30 PM

Kevin Buster will share his love and methodology behind improvising jazz music! Learn how to navigate chord changes and use notes that aren't in the major scale to get different sounds to make different types of styles and phrases. We will play games and work on using pieces of songs to give us a key to get into the tunes.

We will learn from very easy songs and nursery rhymes so any level student will find the information useable but those students with extra ability will also be challenged! Bring an instrument to jam with, or use your voice!
